I have my favorite insulated cups, but there are times that my family or I still grab a water bottle. The bad thing about those bottles is the sweating. Enter the bottle cozy! A cute, quick, crochet project. See below for the Crochet Bottle Cozy: Free Pattern. In addition to absorbing the condensation, it has a strap to help hold onto it. And, you will always know which one is yours!

We even have some re-usable bottles that the cozy fits too! I’ve successfully used these on bottles from 16.9 fl oz – 20 oz.

I haven’t written many patterns. Mostly just my own notes, that make sense to me. So, you could say that I’m new to pattern writing. Initially, I’m writing this up and logging here as a way to keep track of patterns I’m working one. This has only been tested by me.

I wanted to share because I thought someone out there might like these too! This is a pretty easy pattern, but if any terms are unfamiliar you could do a quick google search to find help. Ultimately I would like to record stitch video tutorials. But for now – baby steps.

Supplies:

Bernat Maker Home Dec (Size 5 Bulky yarn)

Size K/6.5 mm crochet hook

Terminology:

ch1 : chain 1

hdc : half double crochet

flo: front loop only

rsc: reverse single crochet

sc: single crochet

sl st: slip stitch

st: stitch

x-hdc: half double crochet cross stitch

magic loop: aka: magic ring, magic circle

Other helpful info:

• This project is worked in the round.
• The ch 1 at the end of a round does NOT count as a stitch.
• I’ve designed this so that the “wrong side” of your work is the outside of the cozy, but you can turn the bottle cozy right-side out if you choose.

Start with a magic loop, chain 1

Round 1: SC 8 in magic loop. Join to first sc with a sl st. ch1 (do not turn)

Round 2: 2 hdc in each st around (16), sl st to join to 1st hdc of the round; ch 1

Round 3: *2hdc in next st, hdc in next st* (repeat from *to*) around, join with sl st (24), ch 1

This completes the base of the cozy, and measures about 2-3/4″ across.

Round 4: Working in flo, hdc in each st around, join w/ sl st (24), ch 1. [This is the start of building up the tube/sides of the cozy.]

Round 5: hdc in each st around, join w/ sl st (24), ch 1

Round 6: x-hdc around, sl st to join (24), ch 1

Round 7: hdc in each st around, join w/ sl st (24), ch 1

Round 8: hdc in each st around, join w/ sl st (24), ch 1

Rounds 9-17: repeat rounds 6-8

Round 18: rsc around, tie off and weave in ends

Add a drawstring/strap by chaining 65. Weave in-between hdc stitches of final hdc row. Tie ends together to create a strap.
